St Comghan’s Church – Update
A recent visit to the ruins of St Comghan’s church, the church in which the MacIains would have worshipped, gave me a chance to check some of the features which are described in the Royal Commission on the Ancient and Historical Monuments of Scotland’s report. As a result, the entry on this MacIain website has been revised and updated – it’s here.
There’s a huge amount of archaeological work to be done on this site, but this is difficult as, quite rightly, the site is a scheduled monument, meaning that nothing can be touched – other than mowing the grass – without the written permission of Historic Scotland. However, the Ardnamurchan Community Archaeology group is hoping to carry out some work on the many graves within the graveyard later this winter.
